Ghetto Life

Advocating For Change

About

My name is Harrison Njoroge and I come from Banana Village. I come from a family of five and I am the second born. When I was grown, I decided to come to Nairobi. This was just two months ago.

When I first came, I found some people smoking bangi (marijuana) and stealing so I decided to stay alone. After being alone for a month, a street boy asked me why I was all by myself. I told him that it is because of the behavior I was seeing. He told me that even he was staying alone because the other kids on the streets were behaving badly.

I asked him if we could stay together in Nairobi and he agreed. He then showed me where we were going to sleep at night. My life became good and wise.

I saw some people collecting plastics and scrap metals when I first came to the city, so after a month I starting doing the same. When I sell the plastics and metals, I use the money to buy lunch.

And that is my life in Nairobi.
